Applicants in this program take the Ability to Benefit (ATB) exam to be accepted.

This program is intended for:

Academic Interest

Certain academic programs may have additional admission requirements beyond a final high school transcript or GED/TASC scores.

Music students:* Applicants may select their program of interest on the application; however, students who select Performing Arts: Music or Music Audio Technology will be placed in the Music Certificate program until they have successfully completed an audition with the School of Music.

Nursing interest:* Our institution does not offer a standalone nursing program. We partner with the Belanger School of Nursing at Ellis Hospital. Students who are interested in taking prerequisites for nursing school should select the Health Studies Certificate as their program of interest on the application.

Enhanced Air Traffic Control and Aviation Science (Pilot Option):* Applicants will be asked to provide proof of a First or Second Class Medical Certificate and proof of U.S. citizenship (or documentation showing completion of U.S. Office of Homeland Security Administration background check requirements) before an offer of admission can be made. If a student applies to either of these programs and does not meet these requirements, they will be placed in the Aviation Science (Non-Pilot) program.

SUNY Reconnect is SUNY's free community college program for New York adults. Through the New York State Opportunity Promise scholarship, SUNY Reconnect provides opportunities for free associate degrees in high-demand fields for New Yorkers 25 to 55 with no college degree. The program aims to help connect New Yorkers with good-paying jobs while boosting economic growth in key industries across New York State. To be eligible you must meet all of the following qualifications:

New York State resident of at least 1 year (or eligible for in-state tuition).
High School graduate or equivalency
Aged 25-55 as of the first day of classes
No prior college degree (associate or bachelor's)

Approved Reconnect programs at SUNY Schenectady are: Alternative Energy Technology (AAS), Chemical Dependency Counseling (AAS), Computer Information Systems (AAS), Computer Networking Systems and Cyber Security (AAS), Computer Science (AS), Early Childhood (AAS), Teacher Education Transfer (AS), and Programming for Game Design (AS). You must select one of these programs to be eligible for Reconnect.
